Phase 1: Menstruation

My favorite, said no one.

That time of the month! The monthly hormone cycle follows an infradian biorhythm. It is made up of four phases. The first phase usually lasts 3-7 days during which the uterine lining is shed, resulting in blood loss. This is also referred to as the period.

Estrogen and progesterone hormones are at their lowest at the beginning of your period. That means it’s a time to take things slow, rest and protect your energy by turning inwards.

This is also where we like to think the results of the Lunar Sync supplements begin to really work their magic. Take your first dose on the day one of your bleed—the supplement’s uniquely compounded formula will address symptoms specific to each cycle. For the menstrual cycle, we’ve added cramp bark to ease period cramps and vitamin c to help the absorption of iron so your energy levels will stay high. With fewer PMS symptoms and higher energy levels, your period on Lunar Sync will be totally different..

What should I eat more of?

Where you can, consume warming foods, like soup and iron-rich foods to build up after blood loss during your period. Iron rich foods include greens and legumes and are best paired with vitamin C-rich foods- like tomato, citrus and avocado- to increase absorption and bioavailability. Stay hydrated by keeping your favorite water bottle full all day.

What kind of activities should I look for?

This is an ideal time to journal and reflect. Grab an ice roller and binge that new Netflix show. Maybe use this cycle to try out some reusable period products like period undies or a menstrual cup.

How to workout?

Most of us feel best keeping menstrual phase workouts low impact and leaning in to restorative workouts like gentle yoga or a walk outside for fresh air and vitamin D.
